In honor of the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., more than 50 student, faculty and staff volunteers from Connecticut College spent an hour reading to students at New London’s Winthrop Magnet Elementary School on Friday.

As part of the “Dr. King Loved to Read” event, the College donated dozens of books to the Winthrop Magnet Elementary School Library.

“This new community learning initiative is an exciting way for the College to commemorate Martin Luther King Jr. Day,” said Tracee Reiser, associate dean for community learning.

Volunteer Pablo Tutillo ’13 said the book he read to a class of fourth graders sparked a great discussion, with the children asking him all about what it is like to go to college.

“I loved hearing the kids talk about what they want to be when they grow up,” he said.
