WFSB highlights advocacy work by Janet Tso '12

Senior Janet Tso's work to raise awareness about human trafficking and sexual slavery was highlighted in a WFSB Eyewitness News segment that aired Dec. 27.

Tso, a gender and women's studies major and scholar in the Holleran Center for Community Action and Public Policy, created a campus organization called Operation 21st Century. Formerly known as CoAST, the organization aims to get students involved in advocacy work in the region and raise awareness about the plight of people forced into modern-day slavery across the world. She hopes to expand the organization to other colleges in the state.

WFSB's Hallie Jackson reported from campus during Operation 21st Century's one-day art exhibition, which included human models, informative displays and colorful, eye-catching imagery. Ashton Evans '13, who served as one of the models, is interviewed in the piece.

In October, Tso was honored with the Ella T. Grasso Leadership in Action grant from the Connecticut Women's Hall of Fame for her advocacy work.
