Explore the Connecticut College Arboretum with map and compass Aug. 15

NEW LONDON, Conn. - Beverly Chomiak, lecturer in physics and environmental studies at Connecticut College, will lead an exploration Aug. 15 in a corner of the arboretum that visitors rarely see, and participants will learn to navigate off the trails with a map and compass.

After learning a few basics of navigation, explorers will set off in small groups on self-designed hikes to visit eight remote points of interest in the northwestern corner of the Arboretum. A prize will be awarded to the first group that makes it back with treasures scavenged from all eight points of interest.

Participants should wear sturdy walking shoes or hiking boots and meet at the arboretum garage at 46 Gallows Lane (across from DNA Epicenter) at 9 a.m. The exploration will end around noon.

This program is free and designed for ages 8 through adult. Children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult. Registration is required. Call 860-439-5060 for further information or to register.
